Zig Zag Support Centre website design

For more than 15 years, I’ve had the privilege of working with Zig Zag and supporting the evolution of their website as the organisation has grown and changed.

Zig Zag provides vital support to young women, trans and gender diverse young people aged 12–25 who have been impacted by sexual violence or need help with housing. With key support centres across Brisbane, their website plays an important role in connecting young people with the information, services and support they need.

After undertaking an extensive rebrand with design agency, Chippa Creative—including new logos, a refreshed colour palette and new graphic elements—it was time for their website to evolve too. The goal was to create a website that felt welcoming, accessible and engaging, while reflecting the strength, warmth and professionalism of the Zig Zag team.

Having worked with Zig Zag since 2009, it has been so rewarding to bring this latest chapter of their brand and website to life.

The planning stages

One of the most complex aspects of redesigning a not-for-profit website is navigating the number of stakeholders involved. There are often many voices and perspectives to consider.

Having a dedicated project lead within the organisation was invaluable. I worked closely with a support worker at Zig Zag who took on this role and we met with the organisation’s CEO at a key stage to get helpful feedback.

Together we mapped out:

  • How the new colours, graphics and visual elements could be used throughout the website
  • Some carefully selected stock photography to use
  • How young people would navigate the website when seeking support
  • How young people could feel seen, heard and understood from the moment they arrive on the website.

The website design and build

Once the business assets were ready, we began the website design process.

The outcome

The new Zig Zag website provides a more welcoming, accessible and engaging experience for the young people who rely on their services. By combining their refreshed brand identity with a clearer content structure and improved user experience, the website now better reflects the warmth, support and impact of the NFP organisation.

The result is a website that not only looks stunning and bold, but helps young people feel understood and supported while making it easier for them to find the information and services they need.
